| Abstract: |
| The excellent performance and the development of Al-Sc alloys are introduced. The preliminary scheme, that using the impure oxides of Scandium to electrolyze to get Al-Sc alloys directly in an electrobath, has been studied. The thermodynamical feasibility of this scheme is analyzed, and the activity coefficient of Sc in Al-Sc alloys is calculated by using Miedema's model. The results show that the equilibrium activity of Sc in Al-Sc alloy can attain to 2.33% when the system is in electrolyze condition (at 1 223K) and Sc & Al separate together. At the same time, the activity coefficient of Sc in Al-Sc alloys much less then 1 due to a stable compound with very high melting temperature was formed. So it will be possible to receive the Al-Sc alloy with 2% Sc in electrobath directly. |
