Abstract:
The electrical conductivity of molten FeO-MgO-CaO-SiO_2 semi-synthetic slags for nickel flash smelting are measured. The results show that the electrical conductivity of molten slag increase with increasing MgO content at CaO content of about 6% and Fe to SiO_2 ratio of about 1.2. When CaO content is below 6%, the electrical conductivity increase with the increase of CaO at MgO content of 11% and Fe to SiO_2 ratio of about 1.2. However, when CaO content is more than 6%, the conductivity increase slightly for FeO-MgO-CaO-SiO_2 system. It is also found that the electrical conductivity of the melts increase with increasing temperature and higher Fe to SiO_2 ratio.
