Abstract:
The effect of TiAl coating on the hot corrosion and protection of Ti3Al alloy is investigated by magnetron-sputter deposition to produce a Ti-48Al-8Cr-2Ag coating on a cast Ti3Al alloy substrate. The hot corrosion is carried out in molten (Na,K)2SO4 at 900℃, the resulting scale structures are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray diffraction (EDX). The results indicate that the spallation occurs at most areas on the Ti3Al alloy while the sputtered coating bonds the scale firmly. The sputtered coating exhibited the excellent protection for the Ti3Al alloy.
