Abstract:
The effect of liquid nitrogen quenching and furnace cooling on compression fracture behavior of Cu50Zr42Al8 bulk metallic glass after anealed at 790K+30min in supercooled liquid region is investigated. The ?5mm BMG composites exhibit compressive fracture strength and yielding strength of 1849MPa and 1670MPa with plastic strain of 1.9% and Young’s modulus of 104.4GPa. Compressive fracture strength and Young’s modulus of the liquid nitrogen quenched and air cooled samples are 912MPa, 678MPa and 38GPa, 56.5GPa, respectively. Compressive fracture strength and Young’s modulus of the liquid nitrogen quenched sample with a partial amphous structure are 912MPa and 38GPa, and the air cooled sample with a totally crystalline structure are 678MPa and 38GPa, respectively. The brittle crystalline phases are identified as tetragonal CuZr2, orthorhombic Cu10Zr7 and AlCu2Zr with DO3 structure.
