| Abstract: |
| In combination of the advantages of regenerative combustion technology and the features of thermal reduction process for producing magnesium, a large magnesium reduction furnace with 66 reduction jars was developed. The flow, combustion, and heat transfer process in the furnace chamber were simulated by FLUENT software. The results show that the uniform flow field and temperature distribution are obtained, the non-uniform flow field in traditional draft furnace chambers and different temperatures distribution between upper and lower jars are solved. This new type furnace is applied well in engineering practices. Compared with traditional furnaces, the uniformity of temperature distribution in the furnace chamber is enhanced by 70%, the production of single furnace increases to more than one time, the reduction period shorts by 1.5 h, the life-span of reduction jars prolongs 30 days, and the coal consumption of per ton magnesium reduces by 60%. |
