Abstract:
The hydrochloric acid leaching process of gallium from Bayer red mud was studied. The effects of leaching temperature, time, ratio of liquid to solid (L/S) and concentration of hydrochloric acid on the leaching rate of gallium were investigated with orthogonal test. The results show that the leaching rate of gallium is 95.4% under the optimum conditions including hydrochloric acid concentration of 8 mol/L, L/S=4.0, 5 hours leaching at 109 ℃. The extraction rate of gallium reaches 98% with 50% TBP+50% kerosene, the stripping rate of gallium is 96.8% with 0.5% salt solution. The stripping solution is neutralized with 0.5mol/L NaOH solution and then filtrated and dried. The gallium mass percentage is 4.32% in solid and is enriched 136-fold from the red mud. The total gallium recovery is above 85%.
