Abstract:
The effect of supergravity on the segregation behavior of solidification microstructure of metal was studied within the centrifugal furnace with Pb-Sn alloy as a sample. The results show that visible stratification occurs on Pb-Sn alloys which solidify under different supergravity fields. Under the supergravity field, Pb-rich (the denser solid) particles precipitate toward to the bottom of the sample and Sn-rich particles float to its top. The segregation also becomes obvious with increase of gravity coefficient. Segregation and stratification of microstructure on Pb-Sn alloy could be realized under supergravity.
