Abstract:
The physical and chemical characteristics of microwave assisted synthesized 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate [EMIM]HSO4 ionic liquid were tested, and [EMIM]HSO4 was applied to aluminum electrodeposition. The morphology of electrodeposits was characterized by SEM, XRD and EDS, respectively. Electrochemical techniques of cyclicvoltammetry and chronoamperometry were applied to investigate the mechanism of aluminum electrodeposition from the [EMIM]HSO4 ionic liquid. The results show that [EMIM]HSO4 has a wider electrochemical window (4.81 V) on platinum electrode, which could be used as electrolyte. The deposition process of aluminum on copper substrates is underpotential deposition and bulk deposition. The electrodeposition of aluminum proceeds is an uncertain three-dimensional nucleation model. The morphology of electrodeposits is dense, uniform and well adherent.
