| Abstract: |
| Thermodynamic calculation of zirconium purification by Iodide Process was conducted. The atmosphere composition in iodide device was analyzed. The thermodynamic analysis results show that the crude zirconium is iodated in low temperature zone, the iodide zirconium decomposes into metal zirconium and iodine atom gases in high temperature zone. ZrI4 and a small amount of low valent iodide are produced from reactants in low temperature area. Upon spreading to high temperature zoon, ZrI4 gas is easily separated into metal zirconium and iodine atom gases. Iodine atoms spread to crude zirconium to generate ZrI4 in low temperature area. The purity of zirconium product is refined after iodide reaction. |
