Abstract:
Waste vitriol in titanium dioxide production was treated by two-stage neutralization with limestone. A lot of white gypsum was produced in first stage neutralization with pH value of 1.5. The precipitation rate of scandium rised with increase of end-point pH value, temperature and ageing time in second stage neutralization. The precipitation rate of scandium is 95% under the optimal conditions of second stage neutralization including end-point pH value of 5.0, temperature of 60 ℃, and ageing time of 1.5 h. The main phase of second stage slag is CaSO4?2H2O. Presented as translucent and gelatinous precipitate with 500 nm in diameter, Sc(OH)3 has characteristics of irregular shape, agglomeration and non-uniform in distribution.
