Abstract:
Al-Ca alloy was successfully prepared in CaCl2-CaF2 molten salt system with CaO as raw materials and liquid aluminum as cathode. The electrochemical behavior of CaCl2-CaF2 system and CaCl2-CaF2-CaO system were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The results show that the intermediate product CaC2 is produced in CaCl2-CaF2 system with carbon as electrode besides that chlorine gas is produced at anode and calcium is produced at cathode. Upon adding CaO into CaCl2-CaF2 system, O2- discharges to generate CO2 for depolarization. Lasting for about 20 min, the feeding period of CaO is determined by monitoring variation of back electromotive force through potential control method.
