Abstract:
Surface coating on scrap magnesium alloy was removed applying novel organic solvents with benzaldehyde as major solvent, formic acid as cosolvent, and liquid paraffin as devolatilizer. The removal mechanism was investigated. The results demonstrate that coating on surface of magnesium alloy is completely removed after immersed for 10 min with volume ratio between benzaldehyde and formic of 13/7. It is supposed that there is no chemical interaction between novel organic solvents and coating materials in removing process. Organic solvent contacting with coating polymer chain segment produces soluble inflation in polymer spatial reticulated structure without damage of degradation, and weakens force between organic coating and substrate, thereby removes coating from magnesium substrate.
