Abstract:
1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloroaluminate ionic liquids with different molar ratios were synthesized and characterized. According to NMR spectra results, structure and composition of ionic liquid anions were analyzed. The effect of anions’ structure and concentration on reduction process of aluminum was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Morphology of aluminum deposits was gained based on SEM micrographs. The results show that aluminum crystals become denser and more compact with rise of molar concentration of [Al2Cl7]?. This phenomenon mainly results from the larger electron affinity of [Al2Cl7]? and weaker interaction energy among ions.
