Abstract:
Copper mold inject casting was applied to treat Al-Sr intermediate alloy in vacuum induction furnace to produce fine-grained Al-Sr modificator. AZ91D was modified by coarse and fined grain Al-Sr respectively. The results of SEM, OM, XRD, test of tensile and hardness indicate that average size of second phase Al4Sr decreases from 100 μm to 5 μm after copper mold inject casting, and grain sizes of AZ91D metamorphosed by two kinds of Al-Sr are obviously thinner than those of molten AZ91D as well as Vickers hardness. Meanwhile, the effect of fine grain Al-Sr is better than that of coarse grain Al-Sr. Therefore, copper mold inject casting is an effective way to improve Al-Sr modification effect.
