Abstract:
The average valence state of titanium ions under different raw materials, titanium ions concentrations, and temperatures was studied by XRD. The results show that TiCl2 is obtained from reaction of TiCl4 and titanium sponge when titanium sponge excess. TiCl2 can be oxidized to K3TiCl6 by HCl, but partially oxidized by TiCl4. The average valence state of titanium ions drops with increase of titanium ions concentration in Ti3 system, but remains essentially constant in Ti2 system. With increase of temperature, average valence state of titanium ions drops in Ti3 system, but rises in Ti2 system due to drop of Gibbs Free Energy of disproportionation reaction.
