Abstract:
Ni-Co/ZrO2 nano-composite coatings were electrodeposited on copper by ultrasound-assisted electroplating. Electrodeposition process was investigated with linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) under different additive amount of nanoparticles. Surface morphology and composition content were investigated by SEM and EDS. Mechanical properties, friction and wear properties of composite coatings were characterized by microhardness tester and friction and wear tester respectively. The results indicate that implementation of ultrasound in composite electroplating processes can improve dispersion and de-agglomeration of particles in electroplating bath, increase particle amount in alloy matrix, so as to improve composite electrodeposition process and coating properties. The coating reaches its optimized performance upon concentration of nano-ZrO2 particles in electrolyte is 10 g/L.
