Abstract:
Structure optimization and improvement of flue in upper part of 420 kA large-scale aluminum reduction cells were investigated. The FLUENT software was used to simulate fume flow in V-shaped single flue. Distribution of velocity field and pressure field in cavity of aluminum reduction cells and flue are obtained when outlet pressure is set at -400 Pa. V-shaped single flue is transformed into upper dual flue with fume covering different areas after analyzing deficiencies of V-shaped single flue’s structure. Comparison with real data in production field shows simulation results are correct and reliable. The modified flue has better fume collection effect, which can homogenize the fume, improve gas collection efficiency and reduce energy consumption of aluminum reduction cells. Further numerical simulation shows that requirements of production and design can be satisfied when outlet pressure is adjusted to -300 Pa.
