Abstract:
In order to explore influence mechanism of MgO on reduction expansion properties of pellets, step-by-step reduction of hematite briquetting with addition of different amounts of MgO pure reagents (i.e., Fe2O3→Fe3O4, Fe3O4→FeO and FeO→Fe) was conducted. Reduction products were characterized by SEM. The results show that when MgO addition is 0%, 2% and 4% respectively, reduction expansion rate of briquettes in the first stage of reduction is 11.06%, 5.63% and 3.85%, respectively. Expansion rate gradually drops with increasing addition of MgO. At the second reduction stage, expansion rate still gradually drops with increase of addition of MgO. In the third stage of reduction, growth of iron whiskers is restrained by addition of MgO, and expansion rate is 28.33%, 15.21% and 10.91% when MgO addition is 0%, 2% and 4% respectively.
