Abstract:
      Copper pyrometallurgical technology in the world enjoys a rapid development since 1970’s with many new processes emerging and being commercialized. Since 1990’s, all the existing copper smelters in China had completed their technical modernization. Entering 21 century, many new copper smelters has been constructed and commissioned in China with state-of-the-art processes employed. The domestically-developed new smelting and converting processes have been widely applied in China since 2008. Technical advances in copper concentrate smelting and matte converting in the world are summarized. The course is reviewed in terms of technical modernization of Chinese copper smelters. Experience in smelting and converting process selection for technical upgrading project of Chinese copper smelters is summarized. Some proposals are put forward in process selection for new smelter projects.
