Abstract:
A common problem of slow leaching rate exists in atmospheric pressure leaching of chalcopyrite. When MnO2 exists in solution, galvanic interaction between minerals provides a way for oxidation of chalcopyrite, which makes it possible to improve leaching rate of chalcopyrite. Effect of MnO2 on oxidative leaching of chalcopyrite in H2SO4 solution and H2SO4-Fe2(SO4)3 solution was studied respectively. The results show that leaching of chalcopyrite is promoted in presence of MnO2, and MnO2 decomposes rapidly. A metal-deficient passivate layer is formed and wrapped on chalcopyrite surface, which hinder leaching of chalcopyrite.
