Abstract:
Reverse EMF of aluminum erbium intermediate alloy was investigated at 750 ℃, molten KF(25%)-LiF(20%)-ErF3(10%)-KCl(45%) system with Er2O3 as source of erbium. The results show that reverse EMF rises first and then stabilizes with increase of time under condition of 16 A/dm2. After adding Er2O3 (2%), anti-EMF drops 0.19 V on average, and the feeding period is 6 min. Current efficiency and erbium yield rise firstly and then drop with increase of current density. When electrolysis time is 24 min and current density is 12 A/dm2, erbium concentration in alloy reaches the maximum value of 3.65%, and current efficiency reaches the maximum value of 74.64%. Alloy is mainly composed of Al3Er and few of Al12Er, and the distribution is more uniform.
