| Abstract: |
| Inclusion of metal particles in slag, ores and slag unearthed from Tongniujing Mining and Metallurgical Site in Huaining county, Anqing city, Anhui province, were analyzed by SEM-EDS, XRF, XRD and other methods to explore smelting process. The results show that slags unearthed from Tongniujing Site are copper smelting slags and magnetite unearthed is likely to be used as flux. Smelting process of “Sulphide copper ore-Matte-Copper” cannot yet be concluded to be used on matte particles contained in slags. It may also be directly reduced using sulfur-bearing copper oxide ore or mixed ore. To confirm the specific smelting process needs more archeological data. |
