Evaluating Heavy Metal Pollution Status of Soil and Vegetables in A Sewage Irrigation District of Nanjing with In-vitro Simulation Method

Abstract:
      In order to explore effect of environmental remediation, health risk of heavy metals in Chinese cabbage and situation of heavy metals exceeding the standard values (GB 15618—2018) in rhizosphere soil of a sewage irrigation area in Nanjing suburb, health risk of heavy metals in Chinese cabbage was evaluated by target hazard quotients (THQ) and in-vitro simulation method through comparing concentration of heavy metal in rhizosphere soil of Chinese cabbage with the standard for soil pollution risk control of agricultural land (GB 15618—2018). The results show that the minimum, maximum and average values of Cd is 0.95, 1.14 and 1.05 mg/kg, respectively, which all exceed the standard of soil pollution risk control for agricultural land. For adults and children, the order of THQ values is Cu > Pb > Cr > Cd > Zn. The health index (HI) values of Chinese cabbage to adults and children are 6.75×10-3 and 5.76×10-3, respectively, both of them are less than 1, which indicates that heavy metals in Chinese cabbage had no significant impact on human health. The average daily intake of Pb, Zn, Cu and Cd in Chinese cabbage of adults is 337—430, 3 294—3 025, 359—540 and 288-483 mg, respectively. The average daily intake of Pb, Zn, Cu and Cd in Chinese cabbage of children is 221—282, 1 985—2 162, 235—354 and 189—317 mg, respectively. In summary, bioavailability of heavy metals do not exceed the weekly tolerable intake value, which indicates that there is no health risk for Chinese cabbage in edible sewage irrigation area. Compared with the previous study (sampling interval is 7 years), the relevant departments achieve significantly effects in regional environmental remediation, however, attention should still be paid to migration and accumulation of Cd in soil and Chinese cabbage.
