Abstract:
Red mud is a massive solid waste from alumina production of aluminum industry, and it has the characteristics of massive production, strong alkalinity, fine particles, etc. Comprehensive utilization of red mud is still an urgent issue to be solved. Carbon dioxide sequestration is one of the important ways to solve the carbon emission problem. Carbon dioxide absorption by red mud is a feasible way to mitigate the greenhouse effect and reduce the alkalinity of red mud. The current status of CO2 mineralization and the properties of red mud were introduced. Based on the summary of absorption and mineralization of CO2, the absorption capacity and mineralization properties of red mud were analyzed. The problems and challenges of red mud mineralization of CO2 were discussed. It can provide guidance for the researches on comprehensive utilization of red mud and CO2 sequestration.
