| Abstract: |
| Luocheng site is an important Eastern Zhou Dynasty acient city site in Yueyang Ctiy, Hunan Province, and the archaeological department had carried out several excavations on it. A small number of iron objects were unearthed during the archaeological excavation in 2021. Metallographic analysis was used to conduct a scientific study on 10 pieces of excavated ironware, and the results showed that the material of ironware can be divided into white iron, decarburized cast iron, ductile cast iron and cast iron decarburized steel. Combined with the experimental analysis of ironware unearthed during the pre-Qin period in Hunan and the excavation of the Luocheng site, it shows that in the middle and late Warring States period, the residents of the site had mastered the more mature technology of decarburized pig iron and even pig iron steel-making, which provided important materials for the study of the metallurgical technology of the Chu culture. |
